BCCL, CISF Tighten Coal Security Network
In a major step towards strengthening coal sector security, Bharat Coking Coal Limited conducted a high-level coordination meeting with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at its Koyla Bhawan headquarters, focusing on mine safety, resource protection, and intensified action against illegal coal mining activities. The meeting was chaired by BCCL Chairman and Managing Director Manoj Kumar Agarwal, with senior officials from both BCCL and CISF participating in detailed discussions aimed at improving operational security and ensuring uninterrupted coal production. A key focus of the meeting was the adoption of technology-driven surveillance systems to monitor vulnerable mining zones more effectively. Officials discussed strategies to strengthen security infrastructure, enhance vigilance, and improve rapid-response mechanisms against coal theft and illegal mining operations. Participants also emphasised the need for deeper coordination between CISF personnel and BCCL management to maintain smooth transportation, protect mining assets, and ensure continuity in production activities across coalfields. The initiative comes at a time when the coal sector remains critical to India’s energy security, with the government actively working towards enhancing domestic coal production and reducing dependence on imports under the broader vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. Industry observers believe stronger security and monitoring systems could significantly improve operational efficiency while reducing revenue leakages caused by illegal mining and theft. The move is also expected to create a more secure and reliable ecosystem for coal transportation and industrial supply chains. As a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, BCCL has been increasingly focusing on operational reforms, safety measures, and digital monitoring systems to strengthen governance across mining operations. The latest coordination meeting signals a sharper institutional push towards building a safer, technology-enabled, and more accountable coal sector capable of supporting India’s rising energy needs efficiently and securely.
