BCCL Strengthens Focus on Tribal Welfare
In a significant step towards promoting inclusive growth and employee welfare, Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) Chairman-cum-Managing Director Manoj Kumar Agarwal held a high-level meeting with Dr. Asha Lakra, Member of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST), at Bokaro. The meeting, conducted following communication from the Commission’s Director’s Office, was also attended by Murali Krishna Ramaiah, Director (Human Resources), BCCL, reflecting the company’s commitment to addressing employee concerns through direct engagement with statutory institutions. During the discussions, special emphasis was placed on the welfare of Scheduled Tribe employees and officers, effective implementation of welfare measures, and ensuring that benefits and safeguards intended for tribal communities reach the intended beneficiaries. The interaction also covered broader themes such as tribal development, inclusive workplace practices, and community-focused initiatives. Officials reviewed various employee welfare measures undertaken by BCCL and exchanged views on strengthening support systems for tribal employees across the organisation. Discussions also extended to BCCL’s ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities aimed at improving socio-economic conditions in mining regions. The meeting followed proceedings held at the Commission level and is being viewed as an important step in enhancing coordination between BCCL and national institutions working for tribal welfare and social justice. As one of India’s leading coal-producing public sector enterprises, BCCL employs a large and diverse workforce across coal-bearing regions where tribal communities form a significant part of the social fabric. The company has consistently focused on welfare programmes, community development projects, education, healthcare, and livelihood initiatives aimed at fostering sustainable and inclusive growth. The interaction reinforces BCCL’s broader vision of creating a workplace that values diversity, protects employee interests, and contributes meaningfully to the development of local communities while supporting the nation’s energy sector.
