EPS-95 Pensioners Still Await Relief

A judgment that was expected to bring financial relief to lakhs of retired employees has instead become a prolonged struggle for many pensioners under the Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS-95). Nearly four years after the Supreme Court cleared the path for higher pension benefits, a large number of eligible retirees continue to navigate paperwork, representations, and legal hurdles to secure their dues. According to available figures, more than 17.5 lakh employees and pensioners applied for higher pension benefits following the landmark verdict. They argue that retirement benefits should not become a matter of prolonged litigation for senior citizens. The issue has also reignited discussions on the effectiveness of India’s social security framework.
