Fuel Shock Pushes Petrol Past ₹100 in Delhi
Consumers across India are feeling the heat as petrol and diesel prices have been hiked for the fourth time in just two weeks, pushing petrol prices in Delhi past the ₹100 per litre mark. In the latest revision, petrol prices were increased by ₹2.61 per litre, while diesel rose by ₹2.71 per litre, taking fuel prices in the national capital to ₹102.12 for petrol and ₹95.20 for diesel. This comes shortly after another hike earlier in the week, deepening the burden on consumers. The back-to-back revisions have now resulted in a cumulative increase of nearly ₹8 per litre in both petrol and diesel over the past fortnight, making this one of the sharpest recent fuel price escalations. Major metros have also seen fuel prices climb significantly, with petrol rates touching ₹111.21 in Mumbai, ₹113.51 in Kolkata, and ₹107.77 in Chennai, reflecting the nationwide impact of rising global crude oil prices. The latest price surge is largely linked to volatile international crude markets and geopolitical tensions, particularly concerns surrounding the US-Iran conflict, which have driven global oil prices upward. Experts believe the increase could trigger a cascading effect on transportation costs, inflation, logistics, and prices of essential commodities, directly impacting household budgets and business operating expenses. With fuel prices crossing psychological levels in key cities, the latest hike is expected to keep inflation concerns in focus while putting additional pressure on consumers already dealing with rising living costs.
