IIM Jammu Trains SAIL’s Future Leaders

In a significant step towards building future-ready leadership, Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu has successfully concluded Phase I of the Leadership Development Programme for Young Managers (Batch IV) for executives of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). The intensive five-day executive programme brought together 52 young SAIL managers, focusing on leadership development, strategic thinking, collaborative management, and decision-making skills needed to navigate today’s complex business landscape. Addressing participants virtually, Sanjay Dhar, Executive Director (HR-L&D), MTI SAIL, congratulated the young executives and encouraged them to embrace collective learning, teamwork, innovation, and critical thinking. He emphasized the importance of moving beyond comfort zones and developing broader perspectives to become effective leaders. The programme was structured to nurture agile, innovative, and future-oriented managers, combining academic insights with practical leadership frameworks. Dr. Lalit Pankaj, Programme Director, outlined the objectives and learning outcomes, highlighting the focus on preparing leaders for evolving industrial and corporate challenges. Participants described the programme as a transformative learning experience, appreciating the exposure to IIM Jammu’s academic ecosystem and leadership methodologies. They also proposed future plant-based case studies and faculty visits to SAIL units, aiming to strengthen industry-academia collaboration through real-world learning. The valedictory session saw participation from senior academic leaders, who praised the engagement and enthusiasm of the participants. This initiative reflects SAIL’s commitment to developing high-potential young leaders while reinforcing IIM Jammu’s role in executive education and leadership transformation, bridging the gap between academic excellence and industrial leadership.
