NTPC Powers Up Profits, Rewards Investors

India’s largest power producer NTPC Limited has delivered a robust financial performance in the fourth quarter of FY26, reporting a sharp 34% year-on-year rise in standalone net profit to ₹8,747.27 crore, driven by improved operational efficiency, stronger margins, and better cost management. Despite revenue remaining largely stable, NTPC’s ability to improve profitability highlights the company’s focus on higher capacity utilisation, tighter cost control, and operational excellence. Its net profit margin improved to 14% in FY26, compared to 11.56% in FY25, reflecting stronger earnings quality. The company’s generation business remained the backbone of growth, contributing significantly to revenue and profitability, while other business segments also added to the company’s overall financial strength. NTPC’s improved operating margin of 21.85% underlines its continued efficiency in managing large-scale power operations. Adding to the positive news for investors, NTPC’s board has recommended a final dividend of ₹3.50 per share, which, along with two interim dividends of ₹2.75 each, takes the total FY26 dividend payout to ₹9 per share. The strong earnings and dividend announcement reinforce NTPC’s position as a financially resilient PSU, balancing profitability, shareholder returns, and long-term energy expansion.
