ONGC Profit Soars, Announces Mega Dividend
India’s energy giant Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has posted a stellar financial performance for the fourth quarter of FY26, driven by strong contributions from its subsidiaries and improved operational momentum across businesses. The company reported a massive 53% year-on-year jump in consolidated net profit to ₹13,678 crore, compared to ₹8,965 crore in the same quarter last year. For the full financial year, ONGC’s consolidated net profit climbed 30% to ₹49,793 crore, reinforcing its position as one of India’s strongest PSU performers. On a standalone basis, ONGC recorded a net profit of ₹6,650 crore in Q4, marking steady growth despite operational challenges in certain production fields. A major highlight of the quarter was the outstanding performance of ONGC’s subsidiaries. HPCL achieved its highest-ever refining throughput and fuel sales, while MRPL recorded a sharp rise in profitability. Petrochemical arm OPaL staged a turnaround with positive EBITDA, adding fresh strength to the group’s balance sheet. ONGC also revealed that new well gas production emerged as a major growth driver during FY26, contributing significantly to revenue generation from its nomination gas portfolio. The Maharatna PSU announced its highest-ever total dividend payout of ₹16,669 crore, reflecting a payout ratio of nearly 51%, a move expected to cheer investors and strengthen market sentiment around the stock. At the same time, ONGC is aggressively investing in future growth. Projects worth over ₹33,000 crore are currently under execution, while the company is also expanding into renewable energy with plans including a 300 MW captive solar power project. Despite challenges such as geological complexities and global disruptions linked to the West Asia crisis, ONGC’s latest results underline the company’s ability to balance profitability, energy security, and long-term sustainability. With strong subsidiary support, rising gas contribution, record shareholder rewards, and a growing clean energy roadmap, ONGC has signalled that it is preparing not just for the next quarter - but for the next phase of India’s energy transition.
