SECL, CWC Join Forces for Faster Coal Movement
In a significant move to modernize India’s coal transportation ecosystem, South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) and Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) have entered into a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening coal logistics and rail infrastructure. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in the presence of Harish Duhan, Chairman-cum-Managing Director of SECL, and Santosh Sinha, Managing Director of CWC, marking a major step towards improving the efficiency of coal evacuation across the country. Under the collaboration, both organizations will work together on key areas including railway rake provisioning, dedicated rail logistics, multimodal transportation systems, first-mile and last-mile connectivity, and digital logistics monitoring. The objective is to create a more reliable, efficient, and technology-driven coal supply chain. The initiative aligns with the Government of India’s broader vision of strengthening the coal sector and supporting the goals of Atmanirbhar Bharat. By improving transportation infrastructure, the partnership aims to ensure uninterrupted coal supply to critical industries such as power generation, steel manufacturing, and cement production. Industry experts believe the collaboration could open new opportunities for logistics providers, infrastructure developers, and technology companies involved in transportation management systems. The project is also expected to enhance operational efficiency while reducing bottlenecks in coal movement. SECL, the second-largest coal-producing company in India, has been consistently expanding its evacuation capabilities. The company recently achieved a major production milestone by producing more than 26.8 million tonnes of coal in FY 2026-27, contributing significantly to Coal India Limited’s record production performance. With logistics emerging as a critical pillar of energy security, the SECL-CWC partnership is expected to play a vital role in building a stronger and future-ready coal transportation network for the nation.
